of

Bill Overell

for more than 50 years of bowling.

Presented on the 22nd October 2005

Bill Overell began his bowling career in 1955 at Suburban Bowls Club in Mackay. During that year, despite losing his first game of the B Grade Singles,  he went on that year to win the A grade Singles Championship. This was also the very first year in which he began playing in First Division. Within 3 years Bill was skipping in Division One.

He went on to represent North Ward (Townsville), Edge Hill (Cairns), Mooloolaba,

Hendra, Wavell Heights and Sunnybank as a Skip in Division One Today, 50 years later, Bill has never been relegated from Division One and now is still a very competitive and competent Lead.

At State level he has-

  • won the quarter-final of the fours.
  • won the semi-final of the pairs.
  • won the final of the mixed pairs.

At District level (in three different Districts) Bill has-

  • been placed third in the North Queensland Singles Championship.
  • won the Maroochy District prestige Singles Championship.
  • won the semi-final of the Maroochy District prestige Single’s Championship.
  • won the Veterans of the Maroochy District prestige Veterans’ Championship.
  • won the singles Champion of Champions in Cunningham District (and followed this up with being in the last eight in the Queensland Champion of Champions.)
  • won the semi-final of the Sunshine Coast Carnival Singles.
  • won the final of the Metropolitan Singles Championship.
  • won both the Masters singles and the Masters Pairs.
  • won the Warana Fours twice.

With Queensland R.S.L. Bowls he has-

  • won the final, won the semi-final and been placed third in the Australian National Fours.
  • won the Fours, Triples and Pairs of the Queensland Championships.

At Club level Bill has-

  • won numerous Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours Championships.
  • his name entered forty-seven times on eleven Club Honour Boards.

This is indeed a record of which Bill can be justly proud.

Congratulations Bill.
